SAYING GOODBYE TO HARRY

Our days of enjoying adventures in Harry was coming to an end.  Memories of the wonderful places we visited,  the  people we met along the way and the interesting things we have seen will remain with us always.

"Other" side of the road.
Kevin was marvellous driving through all these countries for 4 months each of the 4 years we travelled in Harry with a clean driving slate.  I sat alongside navigating with only a few 'wrong side' warning shouts.

"different languages"
We managed to read enough language dictionaries to  learn the common words of all the "different languages" we were immersed into every few weeks and understand some of them well.

"different currencies"
Managing different currencies was more a trial in countries not using the Euro and our conversion mathematics improved greatly after visiting the Baltic and eastern european countries.

"Shopping"
Shopping in a country where we were not sure of the language was easier at a fresh market as we could point and babble.  When buying food in a supermarket we had to look closely at the pictures on the packet or bottle. Milk in a carton had a different name in each country and finding it meant a lot of walking around and staring at cartons. I got to thinking it would be easier if they just put a picture of a cow on milk and butter. Trying to work out sour cream was beyond me in some countries.

It was always good to be back in the UK where we spoke the language ( well mostly we understood what people were saying)

We spent a few more days with Paul and Christina in Watton then made our last journey in Harry back to Cornwall.

Gareth and Anna, the young couple we bought Harry from were buying him back and we stayed with them in Truro while we sorted out the paperwork.

What a sad time, we had really grown to love him. He had taken us through 18 countries from Portugal to Estonia and many countries to the east.
