POLAND Here we come

To get to Estonia we are travelling along the coatline side of all the Baltic States venturing inland to see places of interest .  We arrived at the border of Poland without really realising we were there. On our left were markets all along the street
and on our right was the border sign. We were entering Poland which on this border was the start of the citizens of Germany's paradise. The markets went for about 2 kilometres selling everything from leather coats, shoes to cheese and cigarettes, coffee and weiners. The stall owners were doing a very brisk trade.

We stopped for a quick look and immediately a parking fellow came up and showed us how to use the meter and changed some euro into zlotys. They have it all worked out to get the maximum out of people coming to buy.It was like a big tourist town with horse and carts taking people for a ride and the market on the other side probably doing the same.

Driving out of the town we came to a ferry sign and a queue. Problems we have no Polish money!! After asking another motorhome in the queue they told us it was free so we were saved.

We stopped in our first town to change some money. It was easy using euro everywhere now it is back to changing money in Poland, Lithuania and Latvia  until we get to Estonia where will use euro again. I think we will manage the money but the spoken and written language is like being on another planet.

We have been driving  along the coast to visit the beaches. It is still a bit cool for us but for the rest of the people summer is here.We have had very little rain.

Kevin thought this fellow was carrying cricket stumps down to the beach and remarked " I didn't know Polish people played cricket" Wrong Kevin!!

This is what they are used for. To keep the wind off. Everyone had them as the wind is cool but the sun is warm once you are out of it.

Kevin dipped his toes in but it was too cold for a swim.

This is the only sign we understood in town.
.
The housing we pass can be very plain or very colourful.
Along the way we have been passing crosses with bright ribbons or flowers and after asking we were told we were on the Baltic route on the way to Santiago de Compostella in Spain.

We are also passing hundreds of  Storks either building nests or feeding young. There was a stork on every pole in this town.

This stork was very traditional.
A contented Mum was watching the baby on this nest.
There is a lot of road work going on and while on this route our GPS sent us off through the forest which was very nice but somehow had us taking a shorter route through a national park. The road got narrower and Harry ended up venturing where no motorhome had ever been as you can see on the GPS screen we were constantly being told to go back to the road. After seeing the sign, I think it was about the danger of bushfires we finally made it to a bitumen road.

Kevin swore he saw wild pigs here.
The road we were supposed to take was the thin line marked 16.

Once we saw this sign we knew we were 'saved'

Our last night in Poland was spent at a lovely campsite by a lake. However during the night we had a big thunderstorm and us and two other motorhomes moved at about 4am to hard ground as it is hell trying to get a front wheel drive off of slippery grass.

Goodbye Poland  -  Hello Lithuania.
